Its mission is to support the URI School of Education and the University curriculum by assisting education majors in the development of lesson plans, instructional materials and activities through the provision of appropriate resources, technologies, and library services.

The Caldecott is awarded annually to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
