U.S. Census

Introduction on how to find and use the U.S. census

Census Records

When the census is taken, data about individuals is also recorded.  In addition to names; ages, occupations, birthplaces, relationship to the head of the household and other information were also listed, making these records a rich source for historians and genealogists.  To ensure privacy, these records are sealed for 72 years.  Therefore the latest Census released is the 1940 Census which was released on April 2, 2012.  The sources listed below provide online access to the Census records.  Census records are also available in microfilm from the National Archives for searching or purchasing.
