This is a guide to selected sources of information related to Literary Criticism available at URI. Use the Tabs above to navigate through this guide.
To find additional information, conduct a Subject search in the HELIN Catalog. Materials relating to genres, periods, and national literatures are listed with the subheading, HISTORY AND CRITICISM. For example: English Poetry - 19th Century - History and Criticism. Material on a particular author can be found by doing a Subject search using the author's surname with the subheading, CRITICISM AND INTERPRETATION. For example: Shakespeare, William, 1564-1616 - Criticism and Interpretation.

Use these databases to find critical articles in American and English Literature.
- Academic Search Complete (EBSCOhost)
Full text for over 8,500 journals, including more than 7,300 peer-reviewed journals. Covers topics including: archaeology, astronomy, biology, chemistry, civil engineering, electrical engineering, ethnic & multicultural studies, food science & technology, general science, geography, geology, law, mathematics, mechanical engineering, music, physics, psychology, religion & theology, women's studies, and other fields. Updated daily. Coverage varies, but generally covers the mid 1990s - present. - Book Review Digest Retrospective (EBSCOhost)
Provides excerpts from, and citations to, reviews of adult and juvenile fiction and non-fiction. 1908-1982. - ITER Bibliography
Includes literature pertaining to the Middle Ages and Renaissance (400-1700). Project MUSE offers the full text of over 490 journal titles from 133 scholarly publishers in the humanities and social sciences. Journals may be browsed or searched by keyword. - Web of Science (ISI)
Web access to ISI citation databases (Science Citation Index (1965-present), Social Sciences Citation Index (1965-present), and Arts & Humanities Citation Index (1975-present)). Contains citations to articles from over 10,000 of the most prestigious, high impact research journals in the world. Searching by cited reference allows the user to uncover the research that influenced an author’s work or to navigate forward in time to discover a paper’s impact on current research. Updated weekly.
Print Indexes
Index to scholarly English language literary journals, mostly American and Canadian. Most of the journals are not indexed elsewhere.

Three volumes, covering time periods 1900-1950, 1950-1967, and 1968-1975, compile citations to articles on American literature and related areas published during those periods.
Indexes scholarly journals and monographs covering American and English literature, world literature in English, and English language.
Indexes "poems published in a broad cross-section of poetry, literary, scholarly, popular, general, and 'little' magazines, journals, and reviews published in the United States. Canada, and the Caribbean."
