Reference Managers: Mendeley & Zotero: Migrating from RefWorks to Mendeley or Zotero

This guide provides introductory information about two citation managers, Mendeley and Zotero.

From RefWorks to Mendeley

To move your research from RefWorks to Mendeley, you will need the following:

  1. A Mendeley account
  2. The Mendeley client installed on your own computer

You can export your entire RefWorks collection as a whole, or you can migrate it one folder at a time.

Keep in mind that this process will not transfer any files you have uploaded to your RefWorks account.

From RefWorks to Zotero

To move your research from RefWorks to Zotero, you will need the following:

  1. A Zotero account
  2. The Zotero client installed on your own computer

You can export your entire RefWorks collection as a whole, or you can migrate it one folder at a time.

Keep in mind that this process will not transfer any files you have uploaded to your RefWorks account.
