Overdue and Lost Books

Overdue Books

There are no fines for the majority of the books in the Library.

Exceptions

  • Lost books.  A book six weeks overdue will be considered lost. Bills for lost books are calculated on the basis of the average price of a book ($80.00) plus a processing charge ($20.00). Borrowing privileges are automatically suspended and sanctions will be applied by the Registrar until the bill is settled. Refunds for books found and returned at a later date are made with the processing charge deducted.  For more information, please refer to the Library Fine Policy.
  • Damaged books.  If a book is damaged while checked out to a patron, the book must be paid for or replaced.  Bills for damaged books are calculated on the basis of the average price of a book ($80.00) plus a processing charge ($20.00). Borrowing privileges are automatically suspended and sanctions will be applied by the Registrar until the bill is settled.  For more information, please refer to the Library Fine Policy.
  • Recalled books.  Recalled books are fined at $3.00 per day. For more information, please refer to the Library Fine Policy.
  • Reserve books.  For more information regarding Reserves books and fines, please refer to the Library Fine Policy.  
  • Curriculum Materials Library books.  For more information regarding CML books and fines, please refer to the Library Fine Policy.

Payment

Cash, checks or money orders are accepted for payment of fines.

Fines Appeal Form

If you wish to appeal a fine, please complete the attached Word Document form below.

Once submitted, the form will be reviewed by the Fines Appeal Committee.

You can print the form and submit it to the Library's Circulation Desk.

You can download the form to your computer and fill it out and send it as an attachment to urifinesappeal@etal.uri.edu.

The Fines Appeal Committee will notify you of its decision within two weeks.
