Borrowing from Brown

URI's University Libraries and Brown University Libraries have collaborated on an agreement and procedures to insure on-site borrowing for URI patrons.

In regards to off-site borrowing, those requests must be still made using Interlibrary Loan. The link to that page is here:

Please check your library account before visiting Brown.  Brown items will not be checked out to anyone with overdue fines (any amount) and/or overdue items.

Below is the text to the on-site borrowing procedures for URI patrons who visit Brown:

Most holders of current URI IDs, with clear records at the URI University Libraries, have access and borrowing privileges at the Brown Library.

This includes:

  • URI Faculty
  • URI Graduate Students
  • URI Undergraduates
  • URI Staff

Brown Libraries available for URI users:

  • Rockefeller Library, 10 Prospect Street
  • Sciences Library, 201 Thayer Street
  • Orwig Music Library, 1 Young Orchard Avenue
  • John Hay Library, 20 Prospect Street

Rules of Use at Brown

  • Register at the Brown Library each academic year and summer by presenting your URI ID at the Rockefeller Library service desk.
  • Brown staff will check your URI Library record to confirm your current and good standing.
  • Your URI ID will be your Brown library card for that academic year or summer.
  • Most books at the Rockefeller, Sciences and Orwig libraries can be checked out.
  • Most other material may be used in the library building.
  • URI faculty can borrow up to 25 items for about a month.
  • Others from URI can check out up to 5 at a time for a month.
  • Usually renewable.
  • There may be charges if material is not returned promptly.
  • Charges accrued at the Brown Library may be transferred to your URI Library account.
  • Please return books to the owning library.
