Computer Science

This is a brief guide to Computer Science research resources at the University Libraries.

Finding Books

Search for books using URI Libraries Search! Add search terms into the boxes for the topic or author you're looking for and click "search".

Once you're on the results page, you can use the filters on the right to narrow things down. Choose Available Online if you only want ebooks or Available in the Library if you want materials in print.

Search Tip: Try searching with individual words or short two-word phrases that reflect the main concepts of your topic to get better results.

Search Tips & Keywords

While doing a basic keyword search is a great place to start, you can also do an advanced search by subject to get more targeted results! Each item in the library catalog is assigned one or more subject headings to tell you what it is about. Once you've found a relevant book in the catalog, use the topics (listed in the "subject" field of the book's record) to find related material. Here are some common subject headings for Computer Science materials to get you started:

  • Computer science

  • Programming languages

  • Operating systems

  • Computer security

  • Computer crimes

  • Computer networks - security measures

  • Computer security - case studies

  • MATLAB

These subject headings can also be combined with keywords related to your topic. Don't hesitate to contact a librarian if you need help with your search!
