The Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM) provides sample estimates of statistics for all manufacturing establishments with one or more paid employees. Includes "Statistics for Industry Groups and Industries," manufacturing establishments statistics at the three-, four-, five-, and six-digit North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) levels.
Released every year, County Business Patterns provides the number of employees, annual payroll, total number of establishments, and the number of establishments by employment class size for every industry. Data are also available by industry or by state, county, Metropolitan Statistical Area, and zip code.
The government conducts a complete economic census every 5 years (in years ending in 2 and 7). Data available include number of establishments, number of employees, payroll, and value added/sales/receipts. Information is presented by industry and geographically by state, county, and city/town.
Use this source to help identify trade, business, and commercial associations. These are often sources of industry information and statistics, either on their websites or by contacting them.
