Accessing HathiTrust from the University of Rhode Island

About HathiTrust

HathiTrust is a digital library of more than 17.4 million volumes, digitized from member library collections. Funded by member libraries and governed by members through its Board of Governors, HathiTrust is a global collaborative of research and academic libraries working towards its mission to ensure that the cultural record is preserved and accessible long into the future. The University of Rhode Island Libraries joined HathiTrust in March 2021.

URI faculty, staff, and students can log in to HathiTrust to access enhanced features. Authenticated users may download full-book PDF files of all Public Domain and Creative Commons-licensed volumes in HathiTrust (currently more than 6.9 million for U.S. users)All volumes, including copyrighted works, are searchable. Searchable access means the full text is searchable within the Digital Library and available for advanced research and data mining services via the HathiTrust Research Center.

 

Accessing HathiTrust from the home page

To access HathiTrust from the home page, go to https://www.hathitrust.org/.

 

Click LOG IN and choose "University of Rhode Island" from the list of institutions.

 

If prompted, enter your username and password. Your username is your URI email address (@uri.edu domain) and your password is your URI SSO credentials. This is the same password you would use to access https://myapps.microsoft.com. Note that you must have an @uri.edu domain email address to access the digital library. Although you can access HathiTrust without logging in, certain features such as downloading full PDF's of books are only available when logged in. Accessing HathiTrust Books from the URI Libraries Catalog

You may also come across books from HathiTrust when searching the URI Libraries catalog. From the URI Libraries home page, enter your search terms under Find Resources. For example, search a book title, Birds of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest. In the first search result, click on "Full text available" to access the book in HathiTrust: 

 

This will bring you to directly to the book in HathiTrust:

From here, you may log in. Click LOG IN and choose University of Rhode Island. Once again, your username and password are your email address and URI SSO credentials.
