Finding Articles

This guide will lead you through the steps for finding articles.

Find an Article from a Citation

If you have full or partial citation information for an article (meaning you know some combination of the author, title, journal, date, or DOI), you can easily search for it through the library!

Using the Advanced Search option in URI Libraries Search, select "Search by Citation" from the top menu to quickly check for an article using a complete or partial citation.

Search by DOI or PMID

Many articles are associated with a unique identifier that you can use to quickly track them down when searching online!

DOI (Digital Object Identifier) and PMID (PubMed Identifier) are two common identifiers you might come across. They typically look like a series of numbers or a combination of letters and numbers at the end of your citation.

If you know the DOI or PMID for the article you're looking for, click on "Get PDF by DOI/PMID" underneath the search bar on the library homepage, copy and paste the identifier, and click "find article"! If you can't find what you're looking for, reach out to a librarian for help.

What if URI Doesn't Have Access?

In the course of your research, you may come across an article you need that URI doesn't have access to. If you can't find the full text of an article, reach out to a librarian to verify that we don't have it.

Never pay for an article! If you encounter a paywall, always contact the library for help.

If URI doesn't have the article you need, you can request a PDF scan of it from another institution through Interlibrary Loan (ILL). This process is free for all URI faculty, staff, and students! To learn more about how to place a request, check out the guide linked below.
