Psychology: Open Educational Resources
The following recommendations are Open Educational Resources (OERs), meaning that they are teaching and learning materials that are free to access and licensed for reuse and adaptation. These are a great starting point for self-study and exploring Psychology on your own or with others.
- Introduction to PsychologyIntroduction to Psychology, by Cummings and Sanders (Department of Psychology, University of Saskatchewan), is a combination of original content and materials adapted from several open educational resources. It covers content appropriate for a first-year, introduction to Psychology course.
- Introduction to Community Psychology"This textbook will show you how to comprehensively analyze, investigate, and address escalating problems of economic inequality, violence, substance abuse, homelessness, poverty, and racism. It will provide you with perspectives and tools to partner with community members and organizations to promote a fair and equitable allocation of resources and opportunities."
Psychology Associations & Organizations
Most of these online resources are produced by psychology associations and organizations that collect, compile, analyze and publish for general use. Some content may require a subscription or membership.
- American Psychological AssociationAPA is the largest association of psychologists worldwide. This site covers all aspects of psychology, including a career center.
- Psych CentralA multi-award-winning gateway site covering all manner of psychology information resources, including careers and conventions. If you can’t find it here, it probably doesn’t exist.
- PsychiatryOnlineSemantic indexing of psychiatric terms makes this website a very useful resource and one that is easy to use.
